FOOTSCRAY Community Arts Centre will host the latest Artways exhibition, entitled “Mirror Stage”, this month.
Mirror Stage “explores, encounters and responds” to the ways in which identities transform through shifts in the social, physical and cultural environment.
It also looks at how psychological and emotional experiences affect identity.
Mirror Stage offers “a varied and fascinating selection of works” that are presented in a range of media such as painting, assemblage, and new and mixed media.
The curator of Mirror Stage is Robert Mangion.
Artists involved in the project include Gursel Ali, Jessica Raschke, Maryanne Fenech-Gatt, Caroline Graham, Wendy Newton, Marisa Ramos, Tess Righetti and Safa Takla.
Artways is a one-year bridging course for those seeking further education in fine arts and multimedia. The course is endorsed by higher education institutions such as the Victorian College of the Arts and was developed and presented by Footscray Community Arts Centre.
The exhibition will run from 3 February to 23 February 2007 at Gabriel Gallery and Access Gallery, Footscray Community Arts Centre, 45 Moreland Street, Footscray.
Artwork can be viewed from 9.30am to 5pm Tuesday to Friday, and noon to 4pm weekends.
The centre is not open on Mondays, inquiries 9362 8888.
