TWOfree parties on 9 June will mark the closure of the Footscray Swim Centre.
A morning tea party on the Friday will be followed in the evening by a pool party at the centre.
The pool was built as an outdoor facility in 1929, before which hardy swimmers took their chances in the Maribyrnong River.
Maribyrnong City Council has given the Footscray Historical Society $5000 to record the role the popular swimming hole played in the community.
The pool will be replaced by an aged care facility, while the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre will open on 25 June.
The council is asking members of the community to reply to its open invitation on 9688 0298.
