WYNDHAM drivers are being urged to play it safe these Christmas holidays as police continue to be shocked by “idiotic” behaviour.
The Wyndham Highway Patrol recently nabbed two drivers flouting the road rules making the message even more timely.
Senior Constable Jerome Murnane said on the same day, Friday 21 October, a motorbike rider and a BMW driver were caught by the highway patrol.
The motorbike rider was caught speeding at 102 kilometres in a 70 kmh zone on Old Geelong Rd. He was driving on a disqualified licence and a suspended learners licence.
His reason for speeding was that he “was just going home”.
The driver of the BMW was caught later that night travelling at 133km in a 70 kmh zone on Sneydes Rd and also failed to stop at a stop sign.
Sen Const Murnane said the man did not give a reason for speeding but claimed he did not see the stop sign.
“It is shocking that we are still getting speeds up at those levels,” Sen Const Murnane said.
“It’s somewhat concerning that some of those drivers are losing their cars but some of them could be second or third time offenders.”
Sen Const Murnane said there was every chance that drivers taking risks would be caught over the Christmas holidays.
“We’ll definitely be running our full strength of numbers to attempt to reduce the road toll around Wyndham,” he said.
As Star was interviewing Sen Const Murnane at the Wyndham North Police Station, police were conducting random breath tests on Sayers Rd when two cars performed burnouts in clear view of highway patrol members.
