MEMBERS of Brimbank’s State Emergency Service were sent to Perth to assist in the aftermath of a freak storm which wrought havoc across the state last week.
Two volunteers from the Brimbank unit touched down in Perth shortly before midnight on Wednesday to help in the post-storm clean up.
They joined more than 40 Victorian SES members who donated their time to help in the storm’s wake.
Homes were damaged and power shut down as hail the size of golf balls rained down during the worst storm to hit Perth in four decades.
Brimbank SES Unit controller Brad Dalgleish said volunteers worked to make temporary repairs to buildings and homes devastated by hail, flooding and winds.
Mr Dalgleish said it was not unusual for SES crews to be summoned interstate but said it was the first time Brimbank volunteers had been dispatched to Perth.
He said crew members were finding it increasingly difficult to get time off work to respond to emergencies.
The Brimbank volunteers spent three days in Perth and arrived back in Melbourne on Saturday night.
