THE notorious Sayers and Tarneit roads intersection has been revealed as the worst collision black spot in Wyndham.
A police traffic report showed there were 14 car crashes at the site last year.
A $2.8 million upgrade to the corner with left and right turning lanes, traffic lights and street lighting will be completed by August.
The Heaths and Morris roads intersection came a close second with 11 smashes.
The corners of Old Geelong Rd and the Princes Highway and Hogans and Tarneit roads rounded out the top four.
Another major problem area for crashes are the intersections along Derrimut Rd.
The figures stated there were 979 collisions across the city as the numbers soared by 24.8 per cent. Most of the incidences occurred between 4pm and 6pm on weekdays.
There were 118 people rushed to hospital, 154 suffered minor injuries, 703 left without any injuries and four ended in fatalities.
Werribee Police Traffic Management Unit’s Sergeant Hickson said the rise could be attributed to the number of vehicles on the road.
“We have had population growth, the infrastructure is struggling to keep up and people do not have the right attitude,” he said.
“If people took more care and slowed down and paid attention to the conditions, stopped at signs and abided by red lights then we wouldn’t have an issue.”
