WYNDHAM City Council will spend more than $100,000 to make bus stops easier to use for disabled people.
The council has awarded a $110,118.80 contract to Spaceformer Civil Pty Ltd for the installation of tactile pavers at 38 bus stops.
The pavers are designed to alert disabled people and those who are visually impaired that they have reached the bus stop, making it easier for them to use the transport service.
The works will also involve the installation of tactile ground surface indicators, signage and the construction of concrete paths and hard stand areas.
Mayor Shane Bourke said the council was very pleased to do the project to help people.
“The tactile pavers will let people know they are close to the bus stop,” he said.
“It’s really important to try to make life easier for people with disabilities.”
The works are part of the Accessible Bus Stop program funded through the Department of Infrastructure to ensure bus stops comply with the Disability Discrimination Act.
