AS THEend of Brimbank City Council chief executive officer Marilyn Duncan’s term nears the end, some councillors are questioning the reason behind her leaving, despite Ms Duncan saying she did not wish to prolong her contract but wanted to move on to other things
A few councillors, who did not want to be identified, said they believed Ms Duncan might have been “fired” or “pushed into resigning”.
Despite having no facts to support their belief, the councillors said it was still odd that Ms Duncan announced her departure so suddenly.
But mayor Cr Margaret Giudice said there was no reason to doubt Ms Duncan’s reason for leaving was “a mutual agreement” between her and the council.
Deputy mayor Cr Kathryn Eriksson said Ms Duncan was “capable of making her own decisions and would not be forced into anything”.
“I would be surprised if that was the case because Marilyn is someone who is able to look after herself and would not be pushed into anything that would be inappropriate,” Cr Eriksson said.
Ms Duncan is due to leave the council at the end of this month.
It is believed that more than four candidates with appropriate qualifications have been interviewed for the position.
Ms Duncan said through a council media spokeswoman that she did not wish to give an interview about her departure.
