Draws wash through cricket

WET weather forced the majority of local cricket matches into draws on Saturday, with only a handful of games producing a result.
Most turf matches were abandoned in western suburbs competitions, but some were lucky to beat the downpour for a final result.
Williamstown CYMS dominated its clash with Werribee Centrals in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association’s (VTCA) North A1 competition with a convincing win.
After making 105 in its opening dig, Williamstown was on shaky ground but bowled Centrals all out for a meagre 36 runs.
Incredible fivewicket hauls by Anthony Morrison (5/6) and Chris Gauci (5/26) were the highlights of Williamstown’s victory.
Meantime FootscrayEdgewater has come desperately close to a win, but was forced to settle for a draw in its Premier Cricket match with Ringwood at the Merv Hughes Oval.
A century from Stuart Brohaska helped the Bulldogs set the visitors a 290run target on day one and Ringwood was struggling in its reply before the heavens opened at 8/165.
The Bulldogs travel to Geelong this weekend.
