ANOTHER hydroponic cannabis crop was discovered only two weeks after the arrest of eight people suspected of drug trafficking in the West.
Afire last Tuesday at an Erica St, St Albans, property revealed the plants in one of the rooms.
They were already harvested, leaving just the stalks.
Keilor Downs police Sergeant Edward Warchulski said nobody was in the house at the time of the fire and police were still investigating the incident.
During the recent police operation more than 125 cannabis plants and 2000 ecstasy tablets as well as cocaine and amphetamines were discovered.
Another January fire in a Keilor Downs home uncovered 100 cannabis plants.
Sgt Warchulski said police came across cannabis crops on a regular basis but because of the lack of resources police were still struggling with the problem.
“If we had enough people I have no doubt we’d be able to have one (drug discovery) a day,” Sgt Warchulski said.
He said the procedure was time consuming.
Sgt Warchulski said residents who see anything suspicious should contact the police.
“If they see black plastic over windows or over garage windows they should report it to the police because that’s an indication that there is something going on,” he said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
