Heritage to find place in history

MELTON Shire residents are encouraged to have their say on areas of cultural or historical significance within the shire.
The draft Shire of Melton Heritage Study is on public exhibition until the end of February.
More than 100 individual sites of historical significance have been identified in the second stage of the five-year study.
Melton’s contemporary history stems back to early European settlement with the shire first proclaimed on 24 March 1871.
Some of the potential sites identified by the study include homesteads dating to the 1840s, drystone walls, bridges and communication facilities used during World War II.
A copy of the study is available at the Shire of Melton Civic Centre at 232 High St, Melton.
