New freeway lanes set

BRIMBANK drivers are already feeling the improvements on the Tullamarine and Calder Freeways.
New outbound lanes were opened last week, easing the congestion that has led to 150 accidents involving casualties in five years.
The $150 million worth interchange project opened ahead of schedule. The total project, including noise walls and landscaping, will be completed later this year.
The inbound lanes were opened in October last year.
Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas said the outbound Tullamarine Freeway traffic would switch onto the new roadway, as airport-bound traffic would need to stay in the right hand lanes.
Calder Freeway drivers heading to Bendigo and the north-western suburbs will have to stay in the left-hand lanes.
The project is the first where CityLink concession fees have been reinvested into road network.
