Now, students mark their teachers

A PROGRAM aimed at improving teacher performance from student feedback was launched last week at the Hoppers Crossing Secondary College.
About 30 teachers from the Fraser St school volunteered to trial the program.
The teachers are asked to reassess specific areas of their teaching after receiving feedback from student surveys.
“At first, the teachers thought it would just be a chance for the students to bag you,” said the school’s community liaison officer Sandra Sedgman.
“But it’s not meant to be a put-down, it’s meant to reinvigorate the teachers.”
The UK-originated program, known as principals of teaching and learning, has shown positive results elsewhere.
“We know that the teacher is the single most critical factor in motivating students to learn,” Ms Sedgman said.
