WILLIAMSTOWN may have unearthed a long-term senior prospect with David Stretton claiming the A. Todd Medal last week.
The 20-year-old became the second Seagull in six years to win the medal, awarded to the best and fairest player in the 2006 Victorian Football League reserves.
Stretton, a hard-working midfielder, arrived at Williamstown last season after playing his junior football with Melton and the Western Jets.
He played 17 games in the reserves last year, including the Seagulls’ reserves premiership, and broke through for his first senior games in the final two rounds of the season.
This year Stretton made significant steps in his development, stepping up to become one of Williamstown’s most consistent performers by playing 17 games in the reserves, kicking 26 goals and featuring among the best players on eight occasions.
Stretton added another senior game to his tally when he took to the field for the Seagulls against Tasmania last month, kicking two goals.
He will be an important member of the Williamstown reserves’ finals campaign in the coming weeks, with the side unbeaten in the home and away season and enjoying the week off on the weekend.
