THE inaugural Seddon Zest dining extravaganza on 19 March brought the community to the contemporary culinary venues of Seddon, while generating $1754 for the children’s ward at the Sunshine Hospital.
“The event was a smash success – more than 100 people came along for a three-course meal, travelling through Seddon’s finest eateries. All those involved were thrilled to see the proceeds generated go towards improving services for children in hospital,” said Sheoak Ward Councillor, Janis Rossiter.
The Sunshine Hospital children’s ward will allocate the proceeds towards purchasing two more single sofa chairs for parents who stay overnight with their young ones being treated in the ward.
Restaurants involved in Seddon Zest, as part of the Taste of the West Festival, were Delizia Cucina, Thai on Charles and Touks Bar and Bistro.
The Seddon Zest was a new addition to the Taste of the West Festival, an annual series of events, supported by Maribyrnong City Council, that celebrates the Maribyrnong area’s rich food, wine and entertainment experiences.
Cr Rossiter said that promoting Seddon as a key dining destination with a range of cuisines was an objective of the event, along with generating awareness of the importance of giving back to the community.
“This unique event displayed that promoting local business and altruism go hand in hand in the Maribyrnong community – it was a win-win situation for everyone involved,” she said.
Saltwater Ward councillor Janet Rice enjoyed mingling with community members over an evening of delicious food.
“It was terrific to see so many people from our community – and those from other areas – interested in what we have to offer in Seddon. Both Cr Rossiter and myself really enjoyed leading groups on the night, meeting a range of different people,” she said.
The council’s economic development department supported traders involved with promotion and helped stage the evening’s activities.
“If you missed out this year, keep your eyes open for Taste of the West Festival events next March – eat some fantastic food, with equally lovely wines, meet some of your fellow neighbourhood dwellers and know that you are giving back to those in our community who really need it,” said Cr Rice.
