Supermarket beer heist goes wrong

POLICE are looking for a man after a botched attempt to steal three boxes of beer from a Safeway liquor store in Werribee Plaza last Thursday evening.
Safeway staff stopped the man, believed to be in his 30s, when he tried to walk out of the store without paying.
According to the police, the man then ran to a waiting taxi with his booty.
Alerted by the Safeway staff, the taxi driver refused to co-operate, forcing the failed thief to flee empty-handed.
After failing to stop the male driver of a white VT Commodore in the car park, he abducted a young driver, threatening him by saying that he had a sharp object hidden in his trousers.
The 20-year-old male drove the man to Hoppers Crossing railway station where he fled on foot.
The man is said have dark hair and to be around 183cm in height.
He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white shoes.
Police are hoping to speak to the taxi driver and the driver of the white VT Commodore.
They are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
