CITY West Water last week put out a call for tenders for the contentious Kororoit Creek sewerage pipe extension.
The scheme has caused a stir among Sunshine West residents concerned about the area’s native vegetation.
Plans to build a second sewerage pipe along the Kororoit Creek, running 2.5km between Learmonth Crescent and Melbourne Water’s treatment plant, were met with community concern last month, with council receiving 75 objections to the initial planning application.
There was an initial call for tenders for the estimated $7 million project last year, but the project has changed dramatically after the City West Water altered the pipe’s proposed alignment along the creek.
The tender advertisement makes specific reference to a contractor’s obligations to consider “appropriate regard for the local flora, fauna and Aboriginal architecture” along the creek.
A planning application is still before council.
