RESIDENTS at Federation Residential Village in Werribee could soon be saving up to 20,000 litres of water each year in their effort to help the environment.
City West Water provided 200 water-efficient showerheads to the Railway Ave retirees as part of a campaign to get Victorians to swap their wasteful showerheads.
Federation Residential Village’s managers, Marianne and Raymond Flack said the residents were excited about the exchange and keen to save water in their homes.
“Everyone is doing their bit to help during the water restrictions. We even have 26 volunteers who help water the village gardens on our designated days,” said Mrs Flack.
A typical showerhead uses about 15 litres of water a minute, compared with nine litres a minute for the new efficient ones.
The old showerheads will be recycled as scrap metal and the proceeds will be donated to local charities.
City West Water’s managing director, Anne Barker said she was delighted the residents were committed conservationists.
“By changing your showerhead and by cutting your shower time to four minutes you can save up to 20,000 litres of water per person per year,” she said.
