WYNDHAM officially has a third train station after the completion of the $110 million Williams Landing station.
Minister for Public Transport, Terry Mulder, opened the station on Sunday, announcing that Protective Services Officers would patrol the area from the very first night.
Mr Mulder said the completion of the station gave thousands of residents in the growing suburbs of Williams Landing, Point Cook and Truganina access to local trains and a new bus network for the first time.
“Wyndham is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, and this new station and bus network mean more transport options for over 32,000 Point Cook residents,” Mr Mulder said.
“From today, Williams Landing Station passengers will have access to more than 800 train services a week. All Werribee line trains will stop at Williams Landing Station, providing trains every 10 to 12 minutes during peak times, and every 20 minutes during the off-peak.
“Not only do residents now have access to train services closer to home, but five new bus routes will provide more frequent and direct services to connect with trains at the new station, as well as improved late night services.”
The grand opening of the station was dampened however when the Myki ticketing system reportedly crashed for more than hour.
Point Cook resident Sarah Mitchell said she was unable to top up her Myki when she arrived to test out the new station.
“If it has cost them so much to build this new station you would expect that they could make the only ticketing machine there work,” Ms Mitchell told Star.
“I actually really like the station and I’ve been waiting for them to finish it so I could see it use it straight away, but it’s a bit of a joke that they can’t get their act together.”
