WYNDHAM City Council has adopted a new plan to assist for a brighter future for the children of the municipality.
The Municipal Early Years Plan 2013/17 was adopted by council at an ordinary meeting last Monday.
Councillor Adele Hegedich said it was an exciting new plan for the community.
“The plan will see council continue to focus on long term infrastructure planning, child-friendly city planning and advocacy at both State and Federal government levels,” Cr Hegedich said.
“This plan will be used to partner with the community to deliver, and evaluate programs that make a difference in the lives of Wyndham’s children and young people,” she said.
Councillor Adele Hegedich said the plan was properly themed ‘Bringing the Community Together to support Children’s Futures’.
“It will be implemented using a whole community approach, with council working in partnership with children, families and service providers to assess whether the plan has made a difference,” Cr Hegedich said.
Wyndham has experienced the biggest and fastest population of growth in all Victorian local government areas and is the fastest growing local government area in Victoria, with six families moving into the area every day.
There are currently 31,662 children living in Wyndham aged between birth and 11 years, which make up 19.6 per cent of the current population.
“The plan articulates a vision for children aged between birth and 12 years so that Wyndham provides an environment in which children develop, learn and grow to their optimum potential,” Cr Hegedich said.
On average 66 babies are born each week in Wyndham.
