FOOTY finals are around the corner, but the children of Werribee are sporting the colours of their favourite footy teams for another mighty event.
Footy Colours Day has officially launched for 2013 and everyone is encouraged to jump on board the annual fund-raising event for the Fight Cancer Foundation.
The official event, which will be held on Friday 6 September, is a day in September to wear your favourite footy colours in support of young Australian children living with cancer.
Corpus Christi Primary School in Werribee is already excitedly preparing for Footy Colours Day.
Primary school teacher Carly Dawson said the students looked forward to the event every year.
“The kids love it, it’s a full on day but it’s our way of helping those in need,” Ms Dawson said.
The day is organised by the school’s School Representatives Committee, and involves a day full of various activities including a lapathon, Auskick clinics run by the parents and listening and singing footy team songs.
“They are absolutely enthusiastic, especially the kids on the SRC because it’s a way they get to show leadership,” Ms Dawson said.
Ms Dawson said raising and donating money for charity is a meaningful and rewarding experience for the kids.
“It’s a really good way to give back to the community, showing that we care about what happens in the world,” she said.
“When we see a need we try to do something about, that’s our little goal.”
