EVERYONE is invited to reap the rewards of reading as the MS Readathon month-long reading period kicks off in August.
From 1 August to 31 August, kids and adults alike are being encouraged to read and help provide vital support for people with multiple sclerosis.
Many schools in Wyndham have jumped to the challenge including first time participants, Point Cook P-9 College.
The year 3 and 4 students have been registered to represent the school in this year’s readathon.
Assistant principal teaching and learning Prep to Year 4, Marg Holness, said the school would take part in the readathon every second year, alternating with the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
“The students at our school love reading as it is an integral part of our program,” Ms Holness said.
“They are excited that they will be reading and raising money to assist people with MS.”
Participants are encouraged to read as many books as they can during the month, which will help improve their literacy as well as help raise awareness and funds for people living with MS.
Sponsorship gained by participants will contribute toward raising the $500,000 target for 2013.
If one month is too long, readers can take part in the ’60 MinuteS for MS’ event on 23 August.
There are currently 23,000 Australians who have different types of MS but there is no cure for MS yet.
