WERRIBEE is already a home away from home for some of the best international horses in the world during the Spring Carnival, but soon it will also host some of the biggest human names in the industry.
The Werribee Racing Club announced last week it was teaming up with International Racehorse Transport (IRT) to launch the first ever IRT International Breakfast with the Stars.
The event, to be held on 1 November, will allow guests to watch the international contingent perform trackwork before they compete in the Melbourne Cup.
Melbourne Cup winners Americain and Dunaden as well as this year’s favorite Mount Athos, will be just some of the horses warming up on the day.
Craig Williams, Gai Waterhouse, and Francesca and Luca Cumani will also be at the event, with money raised going to Camp Quality.
General Manager of the Werribee Racing Club, Ross Kendell, said the event cemented Werribee as a focal point of the Spring Carnival.
“The new addition to the Spring Racing Carnival calendar represents an unprecedented opportunity to watch almost half of the 2012 Emirates Melbourne Cup field undertake their final preparations for Australia’s Greatest Race,” Mr Kendell said.
“Not only is this group of horses the largest single consignment of International thoroughbreds ever to arrive to compete during the Spring Racing Carnival, it is also proving to be one of the strongest groups to arrive.”
General Manager of IRT, Chris Burke, said the event would be a one off opportunity for people to see the champion horses all in the one place.
“It’s a daunting thought when you consider that horses stabled at Werribee last Spring filled the first seven places in the 2011 Melbourne Cup.”
