WYNDHAM’S new Mayor will be decided tomorrow with all bets on one man to take the helm of the City.
Councillor John Menegazzo is the only person to put his and up for the top job so far.
“I’m the only one who has been definite about it so far,” Cr Menegazzo said.
“I think I’ve got the leadership and experience to do the job and I think I’ve got the passion and skills to do the job effectively.”
The current Mayor Heather Marcus said she would not contest the election again but had thoroughly enjoyed the job.
“It’s been a wonderful year and it has been an absolute honour,” she said.
“I promised when I became Mayor that I would work hard and with lots of energy and commitment and I think I was able to do that.”
Cr Marcus said she felt lucky to be Mayor during two elections.
“We’ve been able to get out there and advocate Wyndham during the federal and state elections,” she said.
“I think we’ve brought a lot into the area.”
Cr Marcus said she thought Cr Menegazzo would do the position proud.
“I think he would be a very good Mayor,” she said.
Cr Menegazzo said that no matter what happens tomorrow night, Wyndham’s new Mayor will be a hard worker.
“The important thing is that we elect a mayor who is going to do the job the best and provide the best leadership,” he said.
Cr Shane Bourke, who has been Mayor a record five times, said he would not contest the position.
“I’ve done it enough in previous years,” he said.
“You never know in the future, but no, definitely not this year.”
Councillors Cynthia Manson and Glenn Goodfellow have still not ruled out running for the job.
