THE future of a project that could bring up to 60,000 jobs to Wyndham is looking brighter with the State Government finally making an announcement on the long-awaited Werribee Employment Precinct.
Member for the Western Metropolitan Region, Andrew Elsbury, has confirmed that the State Government has asked the Growth Areas Authority to develop a master plan for the Werribee Employment Precinct.
“The Coalition Government has a plan of action which will work towards developing the Werribee Employment Precinct as a place for professional jobs to be based in the City of Wyndham,” Mr Elsbury said.
“The Werribee Employment Precinct presents many opportunities for our community as it will place jobs closer to our homes, it will develop the business opportunities of Wyndham and the West and it also provides opportunities for the Health, Education and Science organisations that already call the Werribee Employment Precinct their home.”
Wyndham Council has been calling on the State Government to develop more than 900 hectares of government owned land into an employment precinct.
The land includes the Werribee Mercy Hospital, Suzanne Cory High School and Melbourne and Victoria University campuses.
A question mark has been hanging over the future of the project since the last state election with the current State Government making almost no statements about it.
Executive Director of the Committee for Wyndham, Nik Tsardakis, told Star the latest announcement was good news.
“The importance of the Werribee Employment Precinct to Wyndham and the West cannot be overstated,” Mr Tsardakis said.
“The confirmation to move to identify the potential through a master plan thus removing the continuing uncertainty around the form and role of the precinct is most welcome.”
