WERRIBEE has gone a long way to cementing its place in the Premier Lawn Bowls top four, after a crushing win against Rosamond on Saturday.
Led by an in-form Brett Dodd, the Bees were on top from start to finish at they stormed to the 16-99 to 2-68 win.
Werribee committee member Rob Casey was happy his side was able to continue its good run of form.
“We were rapt to get another win. Dave Zitter’s rink was the only one we went down in. It’s a bit tough for them having lost so many players, but it was a good win for us,” Casey said. “Our front end really needs to improve on the way into finals. If they don’t lift their game, I don’t think we can go very far. You never know in finals though, if you have a good day, look out.”
At the other end of the scale, Rosamond is already looking ahead to the next season after an exodus of players late last year.
Despite being on the end of some big losses, club president Michael Stelluto said there were positive signs for the club going forward.
“We always knew we would be up against it taking on Werribee in Werribee, but we were reasonably happy in the end, considering where they stand and where we stand.
“We finished with two points and a rink win, and I think we were 29 down at tea and only lost by 31 overall,” Stelluto said.
“It was a really good effort by Reed Chanter and his rink. Trish James bowled really well, and she has really stepped up in the last few weeks. Out of adversity, you always find something good.”
With finals out of the equation and relegation a certainty, Rosamond will continue to blood players in the final weeks of its season. “I think there are only two people left at the club who haven’t played in Premier yet, so it’s been good.
“We’ve had a few people step up to play the lead and second positions and more importantly it gives us a bit of depth.
“We just really want to get through it and then take stock and start again next year.”
