A POINT Cook resident will travel to London as the official Australian Olympic team village postie.
Lauren Muscat, who works in the human resources department of Australia Post, took part in an internal competition to receive the assignment.
Ms Muscat boarded a plane yesterday to take up her official posting where she will spend six days sorting fan mail and letters that she will then deliver in person to Australia’s top athletes.
“I can’t wait to go over and meet the swimmers,” Ms Muscat told Star.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m a pretty keen lover of sport so I’m very excited.”
Ms Muscat is one of five other official Olympic posties travelling to London.
Catherine Walsh, Australia Post’s corporate affairs general manager of human resources, said that she was extremely proud of Ms Muscat’s selection.
“All of our team work extremely hard throughout the year, so it’s great to see Australia Post rewarding this dedication. Lauren is a deserving winner and I’m sure she will have a great time mingling with our sporting elite,” Ms Walsh said.
“Lauren was selected for her strong demonstration of Australia Post’s cultural pillars, her knowledge of Australia Post, and her passion when describing what she loves about Australia.”
This year is the fifth time Australia Post has sent representatives to deliver the mail to the Olympic athletes and the first time they will be sending someone to the Paralympics.
Ms Muscat started working at Australia Post in 2008, on the first day of competition at the Beijing Olympics.
