TALENTED teenager Mariah Carbin is stepping up with her hip-hop dance crew and impressing crowds across Melbourne.
The 16-year-old is a member of the Vivacious Dance Crew, which formed at the start of the year.
Made up of eight girls from Werribee and Hoppers Crossing – Mariah, Eternity Moana-Ripi, Jordaan Moana-Ripi, Andrea Rubio, Charlene Cruz, Paris Hobsons, Orion Faletolu and Tehani Mahu-Tahana – they recently received second prize at the Throw It Up dance competition in Dandenong,
Mariah has also filmed a music video for her dance subject at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College which she received a High Distinction for.
The teenager has uploaded her clip to YouTube and it has already been viewed 925 times.
“What I enjoy most about dancing is that it lets me express myself, I can just be myself and I enjoy it,” Mariah said.
The Vivacious crew consists of Mariah’s close friends and two sisters-in-law.
“The meaning of our name is, ‘To be fierce and we stick together as one’,” Mariah said.
She is the group’s choreographer and instructor for the crew’s inexperienced dancers.
The crew is presently rehearsing for the Battlegrounds contest which will held in September.
“We all get nervous at first, then amp each other up before we go on stage,” Mariah said.
“We get on stage and we go hard and then when we get off we want to go back on again.”
“I know we all love it because when we come off stage we all have smiles on our faces.”
Mariah said after graduating from school she hoped to study at The Edge Performers School, form more dance crews and then travel to America to dance.
“I’d love to dance for Beyonce or someone else like that in video clips,” she said.
