Mining worries

Over 60 residents expressed their worries about a possible coal seam gas (CSG) exploration and development in the Camden Haven Valley last week.
The Camden Haven Anti Fracking Group issued a statement declaring CSG, particularly involving the process of chemical fracturing or “fracking”, as an inappropriate industry for the Camden Haven and vowed to stop any CSG exploration or development in our region.
Group spokesman Ian Oxenford said members wanted to ensure that all landholders are made aware of the health and environmental impacts of
CSG wells.
“The group included oyster farmers whose livelihoods would certainly be eliminated by any CSG activity in the watershed,” Mr Oxenford said.
“Others included farmers and landholders and interested parties, including Karl Bayer, leader
of Manning Clean Water
Action Group.
“His group was initiated several months ago in response to the expanding CSG development to their south. Specifically, this was the development of 110 CSG wells at Gloucester by AGL, approved by the outgoing
State Labor Government in its final days.”
The first committee meeting will be Thursday, June 2 at Kendall School of Arts.
