PEOPLE power is now on show after a series of signs were installed in the region that encourage motorists and cyclists to share the road.
A group comprising cyclists, police, council representatives and Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams is behind the campaign.
Funding for the signs was provided by Roads and Maritime Services, which allowed the group to erect 10 signs around the district.
Group spokesperson and cyclist Andrew Lister said the group was formed following a number of unsavoury incidents involving cyclists and motorists.
“We quickly realised there was a need for greater understanding to share our roadways,” he said.
“Over a series of meetings we came up with a campaign strategy to educate the community that cyclists and motorists co-exist on our road network.”
The 10 signs have been installed along the most popular cycling routes and aim to convey this simple road safety message to all road users.
The signs will be located along these major roads: Hastings River Drive, Ocean Drive, Pacific Drive, Settlement Point Road, Lord Street and Lake Road.
