WITH the $110 million expansion of Port Macquarie Base Hospital currently underway, a newsletter advising residents on how it is progressing has been sent to every household in the Port Macquarie electorate.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said it was the biggest hospital construction project in the electorate’s history and it was important for the community to have as much information as possible.
“Construction is progressing well and the expansion is expected to be completed in just under 12 months,” Mrs Williams said.
“The state and federal government funded expansion includes a new 34-bed theatre recovery unit, a new two-room day procedure unit, a new seven-theatre operating suit, expansion of the emergency department, new cardiac catheterisation laboratory, a 24-bed intensive care ward and a new 30-bed medical inpatient ward,” Mrs Williams said.
“This will be a first-class health care facility and will address future demand for clinical services and improved access to surgery and emergency department services.”
Mrs Williams said the newsletter contained design information on how the hospital would look in the future, as well as a special feature on the history of the hospital and health care system in Port Macquarie since the 19th century.
