New leaders for Wauchope High

Celebrations of excellence and announcement of a new generation of school captains finished the term with resounding success and spectacle for Wauchope High.
The 2013 captains elect are Jackson Thompson (Boys Captain) Jaclyn Lindsay( Girls Captain), Brent Lenehan (Boys Vice Captain) and Shannon Steel (Girls Vice Captain).
The captains were announced at the final assembly for Year 12 in an emotionally charged atmosphere in a packed hall, where families watched as students received prizes for excellence and achievement followed by a final roll call.
The ceremony was sprinkled with the humorous challenging of Year 11 students Nigel Malcolm and Ned Parker followed by reciprocates Alec Malcolm, Benjamin Mackiewicz and Bronte Montgomery from Year 12. The Wauchope High HSC Band Played Purple Haze and The Joker and the Thief to an appreciative audience. With the new school hospitality kitchen working to busiest, catering by Wauchope students the morning was an excellence success. A representative, Ms Leonie McHugh, from Rotary Club of Wauchope was at the assembly to present Leadership Awards to the 2012 captains and the SRC president.
The afternoon saw the celebration of excellence in the second Excellence Assembly for 2012 for years 7 to 11. Over 250 awards were presented to students from Year 7 to Year 11. Here Sarah Houseman and James Pearse hosted a wonderful afternoon of celebration interspersed by a piano recital by Nigel Malcolm, solo guitar item by Reece Wade (Here Comes the Sun by George Harrison) and a complex serenade by the Wauchope High choir (Even though I am a Woman).
A special award from North Coast TAFE was presented to Year 11 student Cody Che for his exemplary achievements in theory and practical work in his part time plumbing apprenticeship that he is undertaking at the same time as his HSC. A second special award was presented to Patrick O’Sullivan and Josh Howard for their participation in Riding for the Disabled, which resulted in 1st place in the state for the 2011 Drill Ride.
