Council staff have donated more than $9000 to local charity organisations and appeals in the past year.
And just before Christmas Development and Environment Services staff opted to donate their “Secret Santa’ presents to the Salvation Army.
Captain Brett Gallagher was presented with 73 wrapped gifts for the church to distribute to children in need at Christmas.
The organisation also made a donation to the St Thomas’ Soup Kitchen Christmas Appeal generously providing 16 boxes of groceries, a $100 meat voucher and $871.65 in cash for the provision of meals for the needy over Christmas.
Fourteen staff participated in the Movember campaign to help raise money and awareness for men’s health initiatives including research into prostate cancer and depression.
The Mo Bros and their moustache creations raised $2402 which was topped up by contributions collected at Council’s annual Multisports competition.
Staff “Casual Friday’ donations totalled $1500 for the year with $300 contributions made to the Salvation Army (Port Macquarie), Hastings Men’s Shed, Uniting Church, Hastings Cancer Trust and Endeavour Clubhouse. Coles vouchers were also given to the Port Macquarie Animal Welfare Service last month.
Other donations included $2680 for Relay For Life and the crew at the Glasshouse raised $531 for the Hastings Cancer Trust through the production of Breast Wishes – among others.
General Manager Tony Hayward said Council staff were always willing to give and every little donation helps support the work of local charities in Port Macquarie-Hastings.
