Two men and a young boy were rescued from a sunken vessel on Saturday, thanks to a local family, who wish not to be named.
The life saving escapade happened off Nobbys Beach at about 8.30am on March 31 when the family saw a boat in trouble.
A spokesperson from the family said the owner of the distressed vessel was a professional fisherman, “whose boat sank out on the shelf, I think last year. He was found clinging to his ice chest.
“We came across the capsized boat [on Saturday] being washed onto flat rock after having been hit by a rogue wave when they were casting for benitto bait.”
The spokesperson from the family said, in this incident on Saturday, on board were two adult males and a six-year-old boy.
“They were clinging to the submerged hull. We got them all on board safely and tethered the submerged boat until Marine Rescue arrived and took over.”
Marine Rescue Port Macquarie confirmed the incident occurred and said the vessel was “uprighted” and towed back into the river safely.
Although no one was injured during the terrifying freak accident, Ambulance officers attended.
