Swimming legend Suzie O’Neill was in Port Macquarie on Friday night, alongside other Olympic hopefuls to put her strength behind a heartfelt cause for our kids.
Australia’s golden girl and queen of the pool was in town for an event at Rydges Port Macquarie with London-bound Olympic swimmers Kenrick Monk and Christian Sprenger, among other hopefuls, to launch Brad Foster’s 1200km cycle challenge dubbed Road to Port.
The long haul event raises money for the KIDS Foundation.
KIDS is an acronym for Kids In Dangerous Situations and exists to try to redress the startling childhood injury statistics in Australia.
The inaugural cycling challenge that runs from Ballarat/Melbourne to Port Macquarie kicked off last week, and is scheduled to end on Thursday, May 3.
Brad Foster, a loyal supporter of KIDS, set out to raise $140,000 over a two-year period and, after reaching his goal, wanted to do more.
So, together with Susie O’Neill, a former teacher and founder of KIDS Foundation, Brad has initiated Road to Port, an event that, in its first year, raised in excess of $165,000 to support The KIDS Foundation Injury Prevention and Recovery Programs.
This year’s Road to Port course will take in a scenic route, staying at beautiful places, including a winery and a resort, whilst covering more than 1200km from Ballarat/Melbourne to Port Macquarie, completing the final stage in the region.
