The number one priority for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s new Administrator, Neil Porter, is the appointment of a new General Manager.
Speaking to local media on his first day as Administrator on Monday, Mr Porter said continuing with the recruitment process for a General Manager was important for the organisation’s stability.
“Having worked at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, I am well aware of how challenging it will be to ensure that Council is in good shape financially and administratively before a locally elected Council takes over in September 2012,” he said.
“A permanent General Manager will play a critical role in making this happen.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the achievements of Garry Payne in addressing the financial position of Council and establishing a solid community consultation framework.
“Continuing to improve the financial future and ensuring Council focuses on consulting the community on major issues remain high priorities for me,” said Mr Porter.
With three decades’ experience in local government including roles as Director of Corporate Services and Manager Governance at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Mr Porter brings a wealth of knowledge to the position.
“As a local resident, I’m certainly accessible and available to represent the Council in the community but, just like the Mayoral role, this isn’t a full-time position. However, I will give an assurance that if I am needed I will be available.
“I’m looking forward to the challenges that the next 16 months will bring and I’m confident that I can be effective in linking the expertise of the Council staff and the passion of the community to achieve positive outcomes,” Mr Porter said.
