Pedal to the metal for charity

This week the launch of an exciting event for the Hastings Region is being unveiled, the 2012 Pedal Against Poverty.
October 6 will see Port Macquarie host the Mountain Bike section of 2012 Pedal Against Poverty.
The Hastings Region has been selected to host this event due to the strong Mountain Bike Scene in the Hastings and the wonderful facilities at the Port Macquarie Urban Mountain Bike Park, located at Wayne Richards Park.
The event, in its second year, has one of the sport’s premier athletes as its Ambassador, the 24hr Solo Mountain Bike World Champion, Jason English.
The event is open to anyone who would like to support it, from the serious solo competitors who’ll tackle the whole 8hr ride, to teams of enthusiasts joining forces to take on the wonderful trails at the Mountain Bike Park.
In 2012 the event will even have a family and kids section, with a shortened course.
For those who participate, there will be plenty of prizes up for grabs.
Pedal Against Poverty is a Christian non-profit organisation that provides support for children living in poverty in Cambodia and an Antenatal Clinic, which gives support and education to mothers and their newborn children, as well as supporting projects in India and Tanzania to assist desperately poor kids and rescue children at risk of sexual slavery.
Those wishing to get involved with this great cause and wanting some biking action to pedal against poverty, are encouraged to visit www.pedalagainstpoverty.com and register.
