CWA boosts cancer care

By JO HARRISON

MEMBERS of the Kellys Plains/Dangarsleigh CWA recently presented a $200 cheque to Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Oncology Unit of the Armidale Hospital Pam Pateman.
President of the group Lorraine Sewell said the club wanted to raise and donate money closer to home after many years of raising funds for the Jean Colvin Cancer Centre in Sydney. The local oncology unit at the Armidale Hospital was a worthy recipient.
“We had supported the Jean Colvin Cancer Centre for many years and thought it time to support providers of cancer care locally,” Lorraine said.
“We raise our money locally so we wanted to put some of that back into the community.”
Ms Pateman said the funds would go towards the little things that make a patients time easier through the treatment process.
“We are well-funded by the government but it is the personal little things that donations to the unit make,” Pam said.
“Donations to the unit stay with the unit and it is those things that can make what is a strong basic service enhanced, making it more comfortable for the patients and their visitors.”
