At 2.20am last Friday, August 31, The Hill Street Shop was targeted by at least five offenders who forced entry through a side window.
Store owner Darren Walsh said that this was the first time the premises had been broken into since he started operations in 2003.
“I have to take my hat off to not only the local police who arrived within 10 minutes but also to the Finger Print Unit who were lifting prints within an hour of the break in” Walsh said.
“These idiots were caught on our full colour 360 degree infra red closed circuit cameras.
“Three males could clearly be seen climbing through the window into the shop whilst there were at least two spotters standing outside.”
Mr Walsh said that both ‘back to base’ and ‘screamer’ alarms were triggered causing the would-be bandits to make a hurried escape out through the window from which they entered the premises.
Walsh also indicated that super mesh and roller shutters were now being installed as an added deterrent.
“It’s such a sad reflection on our society when time and time again these gutless criminals commit offenses in the dark of night – if they are reading this now I would ask them to come have a ‘chat’ with me face to face”.
