The $185,000 upgrade to Rotary Park, Port Macquarie has been officially opened last week.
NSW Senator Matt Thistlethwaite, officiated proceedings on behalf of the Hon Simon Crean MP, Minister for Regional Australia in recognition of the Federal Government’s $118,000 contribution to the project through the Regional and Local Community and Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Director Infrastructure Services Jeffery Sharp acknowledged the Federal government for their contribution to the project and thanked the Combined Rotary Clubs of Port Macquarie for their involvement and long term vision in developing the popular Town Beach reserve.
“On behalf of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council I would like to acknowledge the Federal government for their financial assistance in helping Council deliver the upgrade to Rotary Park,” Mr Sharp said.
“The Combined Rotary Clubs of Port Macquarie have also been integral in the development of the Rotary Park Masterplan and its implementation to date.”
“Above and beyond driving Council to develop and adopt a long-term strategic vision for this reserve, they have helped with the implementation of elements of the plan including improvements to the shelter, upgrade of the garden, installation of the pergola, bench seats and construction of the Rotary Park sign.
Other enhancements to the park include the construction of a shared used cyclepath from the corner of Lord and Williams Street to Stewart Street, the replacement of the children’s playground, installation of shade structures, park furniture and landscaping.
“These improvements to the park have provided new and improved facilities for the region that will encourage further community use of the park,” Mr Sharp said.
