The Port Macquarie Independent has been given the green light for growth after a new company structure was approved last Friday.
Evans Publishing, publishers of the Armidale Independent, Port Macquarie Independent, Tamworth City News, Southern Free Times and Tweed Coast Weekly, has secured investment and the confidence of creditors to continue publication of its newspapers.
A meeting of creditors voted to approve a Deed of Company Arrangement after almost two months of voluntary administration under RMG Partners. The new arrangement includes the appointment of businessman Scott Williams as Chief Executive Officer of Evans Publishing.
Mr Williams said he saw enormous potential for the company’s growth in the publishing industry.
“Local independent newspapers are an important part of the communities they serve,” Mr Williams said.
“I am really looking forward to expanding the business to allow more communities the local, balanced voice an independent newspaper provides.”
Mr Williams brings with him extensive business experience, including co-founding the multi-award winning company Petals Network.
Former CEO Brad Evans will be taking on the role of Sales and Marketing Manager within the company.
“I am pleased that we have managed to secure the support and business experience of Scott Williams to assist in the company’s future direction and I look forward to working closely with him,” Mr Evans said.
“Our new company structure now ensures both the growth of the company and a future for our much loved free weekly community newspapers.”
