Police have rescued a man caught in rough seas on the State’s Mid-North coast.
About 1.30pm on Saturday, February 2, police responded to reports of a 31-year-old kayaker in trouble with a broken rudder cable about 600m off the coast of Emerald Beach.
Officers from Coffs Harbour Marine Area Command – with the assistance of local lifeguards and Regional Marine Rescue – battled three-metre swells and 20 knot winds to reach the man.
The ski paddler was brought to shore a short time later without injury.
Police have commended the man for carrying an adequate GPS navigation device which aided rescuers in their salvage operation.
