Port Macquarie’s born and bred Martin Barrow has lived in Zimbabwe for eight years, establishing many inspirational projects to help the poorest of the poor.
Martin has returned to Port for a brief holiday and to spend time with his family and, while here, a fundraising event will be held to support his worthy cause in the third world country.
Martin’s mother Robyn said her son grew up in Port and was School Captain at Port Macquarie High School.
“In 2003, Martin left his work in corporate finance here in Australia, as he saw the great need of the people in Zimbabwe, and felt compelled to help,” Robyn said.
“He has founded and now directs many projects in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. These are called Our Neighbour’s Ministries.
“There is a babies’ home for abandoned babies: Isaiah’s Home of Love, where they lovingly care for the babies and help to facilitate fostering and adoption, and three ‘forever homes’ where abandoned and orphaned children are cared for in a family environment.
“There is also a home and school for kids formerly living on the streets, soup kitchens and food assistance for the needy, a free medical clinic, empowerment projects, discipleship, HIV support groups, and outreach to those living in squatter camps, to mention a few.”
A “coffee, cake and convo for Zimbabwe night” will be held at Grace Church on Saturday, April 9 from 7pm to raise money for Martin’s projects.
Everyone is welcome and donations can be made on the night.
