A new device to help reduce the cost of residential electricity consumption will be launched at Port Macquarie-Hastings Library this week.
Hastings residents will be able to measure how much electricity their households consume by borrowing a Save Power Kit from the library.
The scheme is being launched by local councils across the State in partnership with the Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water. The kits aim to raise awareness about the importance of energy efficiency to the environment and align with the aims and objectives of Council’s Greenhouse Action Strategy implemented in 2003 to reduce the level of corporate and community greenhouse gas emissions.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Library is among the first to make the Save Power Kit available to residents.
The kits contain a Power-Mate Lite to measure the power used by your TV, washing machine, dryer, fridge and other equipment and appliances; thermometers to find out where your home lets in the cold in winter or the heat in summer; a stopwatch to record how long you spend in the shower and measure how much hot water you use, and worksheets to help residents record their electricity consumption and introduce simple measures to reduce their power bill.
The kits are available at Council libraries in Port Macquarie, Laurieton and Wauchope and can be borrowed for a period of one week using a Port Macquarie-Hastings library card.
