Port Macquarie Landcare (PML) recently held an information morning tea which saw about 30 people attend to find out more about its local projects.
PML president Estelle Gough gave a presentation on the overall work of the local Landcare group.
Council’s ecologist Bill Peel talked of how Landcare fits into the Council’s parks and reserves management plan.
Julie Ho (PML project manager) gave an in-depth insight on the Landcare site at Lighthouse Beach, whilst Ken Errington (PML project manager) invited people to contact him and arrange to have a guided tour of the Lilypond project on Koala Street.
There were also representatives from the local employment agencies, who were interested to learn about the work of Landcare for the purpose of directing people to do volunteering with Landcare.
PML president Estelle Gough said she was very pleased at the day’s outcome.
“Some people are turning up to sites tomorrow to try us out. Others will be coming to the Nursery on Monday,” she said.
New volunteers are encouraged to visit a local project in their neighbourhood and help out. Projects are held in local rainforest sites, along local beaches and dunes, and also at the nursery.
People interested to know more about working bee days and times should visit the group’s website www.landcareportmac.com.au or ring Estelle on 0432 141 605.
