Plaque honours sport’s founder

The Port Macquarie Bodyboarding Association (PMBA) in conjunction with Hastings Council unveiled a replica Bodyboarding  plaque at Town Beach Breakwall in honour of John “Eppo’ Eppelston who was inspirational in developing the sport of bodyboarding in Port Macquarie.
PMBA President Jim Rutherford thanked Karen Hunt and Peter Gleeson for all their efforts in getting Port Macquarie officially recognised as The Bodyboarding Capital of Australia last November by the IBA (International Bodyboarding Association).
He also acknowledged Jenny Mead from Port Macquarie Hastings Council, along with all the other council representatives,  for providing the space and foundations for the project.
Jim was joined by recently crowned 2011 World Drop Knee Champion Damian King who can now boast three World Titles to his name.
Kingy, as he is better known, was crowned World Bodyboarding champion in 2003 and then again in 2004.
“To reach the pinnacle of a different surfing discipline seven years after my last title is extremely satisfying,” he said,
“And whilst I am still very much on a high following my win I  still love returning to Port Macquarie and going head to head with the local talent”.
