The spruced up Oxley Highway was officially opened on Tuesday.
The NSW Government funded $115 million project is a six kilometre upgrade of the Oxley Highway between Wrights Road and the Pacific Highway.
Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay and Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner, made the trip to the Hastings for the launch date.
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said the project has been a long time coming.
“To see it finally ready to take traffic is a great win for our community,” Mrs Williams said.
“Our community has waited many years for this upgrade to come to fruition and to be on the eve of the opening is very welcome indeed.
“The project will deliver major benefits to the community through reduced travel times and a reduction of accidents.
“As traffic starts to use the new road all motorists will benefit from the upgrade.
“The biggest benefits of the upgrade will be improved road safety and travel times for motorists travelling from Wauchope and surrounding areas into Port Macquarie.
“The new highway route is also a much more inviting gateway into Port Macquarie for visitors to our area,” Mrs Williams said.
