Oriti takes top job with chamber

Hadyn Oriti was elected unopposed as the new President of the Port Macquarie Chamber of Commerce at last Tuesday’s monthly board meeting.
The vacancy was created with the resignation of outgoing president, Robert Turner, who resigned from his position to contest the upcoming Local Government election in September.
“As I said when I announced my intention to run for council, it is best for both organisations if Chamber can represent the business community without any perceived conflicts of interest,” said Mr Turner.
“I have really enjoyed my time as Chamber President and have been very grateful for the full support I’ve received from my fellow board members and successive Executive Officers.”
In his first public address as the new Chamber President, Mr Oriti paid tribute to Mr Turner’s time in the role.
“Over recent years, the Chamber has cemented its reputation as an effective and stable organisation, and Rob can certainly take some of the credit for that.” Mr Oriti went on to add that the council elections had created quite a bit of momentum for renewal within the community and the Chamber was keen to take advantage of this.
“We will be looking to appoint a replacement board member at our meeting next month so the Chamber can continue at full strength.
“There are several important issues we are pushing hard on, such as the Foreshore, the Town Centre Master Plan and the retention of Essential Energy staff and we want to keep the pressure up.
“The Chamber feels it is of key importance to remain focused on the current Economic Development and Tourism Review.
“The results of the review will have a strong influence on the future of our local economy.
“The Port Macquarie Chamber has made a number of contributions to the review.
“The Chamber’s recommendations include the need to reflect that the Hastings LGA has a diverse economic base, and that the new structure has the ability to influence council’s decision-making processes and to ensure value for money with the issue of Council funding.”
David Edgerley was elected to replace Mr Oriti as the Chamber Secretary.
