Small club does big things

They may be few in numbers but the Uralla Lions Club have achieved big things in 2011 and are looking just as keen to continue that tradition into 2012. From tree planting with the Hi-Cub Project to re painting the Driver Reviver building in Uralla the club has contributed significantly to the Uralla community.
The Uralla Lions Club reformed around 18 months ago and have a modest number of 10 Lions members and two Leos. Club President Eric Steadman is proud of his club’s achievements and is looking forward to growing the club in 2012 and making a difference to his community.
“We are auspice by Glen Innes until we get our charter back which requires us to have a minimum of 20 members,” said Eric Steadman.
“The Lions Club ethos is to serve our community.
“We try to get out as much as we can into the community.
“We were approached to paint the Driver Reviver building and do some maintenance which we completed about a month before Christmas.
“We get a lot of enjoyment from just getting out there and doing things, especially because I am a painter, we have other people who can weld and do carpentry, we get to use our skills for the community.
“We have done lawn mowing, we helped with the barbeque for Youth Week, manning the gates for the Uralla Show Society, and we approached the Hi-Cub Urban Bio Diversity Project where we planted trees in Alma Park.
“These are just a few of the projects that we completed last year.”
Anyone who is keen to get involved with the Uralla Lions Club can contact Eric at the Bushranger Motor Inn in Uralla on 6778 3777. The Club has a dinner meeting on the first Wednesday of every month, 6.30pm for a 7pm start at the Bushranger Motor Inn.
