Art from waste

THE Northern Inland Regional Waste’s (NIRW) annual Waste into Art and Design Competition is on again, and Armidale Dumaresq Council is calling on creative locals to turn trash into treasure.
Now in its 13th year, the Waste into Art and Design Competition celebrates the creativity and resourcefulness of the region and aims to inspire the community to consider the way that unwanted items or ‘waste’ can be re-used and recycled.
The competition is open to primary and secondary schools and the general public, with a special category this year to celebrate the Armidale Dumaresq Council’s Sesquicentenary. Artworks can be Art (2D/3D/Sculpture), Functional Art (Furniture/Home ware/Inventions), Textiles and Wearable Art, and Building or Elements of Building or Large Sculpture (photographic entries only).
All entries must incorporate the use of recycled or pre-loved materials. Prizes are available at both the local and regional levels.
Closing date for entries is Thursday 22 August. Full details of the competition categories, conditions of entry and entry form are available on council’s web page. Copies can also be collected from our customer services team or by contacting the competition co-ordinator, Ms Hayley Ward, on 6770 3832 or by email at hward@armidale.nsw.gov.au
