Listen in to Uncle Jack

WITH PIC OF JACK CHARLES

FOLLOWING critically acclaimed seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, Jack Charles v The Crown is touring around the country.
It is a powerful one-man show that shines the spotlight on the colourful life of one of Australia’s near-forgotten treasures.
Jack is an actor, musician, potter and gifted performer, but for a good portion of his nearly 70 years he was also homeless, an addict, a thief and a regular in Victoria’s prisons.
A respected Aboriginal elder who pioneered Koori theatre in the early 1970s, and founded Nindethana, the first Aboriginal theatre company, Jack was a television regular and the star of movies including The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith.
He is one of Australia’s most highly regarded performers. At almost 70, no longer caught in the cycle of addiction, crime and doing time, Jack sings and tells his astonishing tale with extraordinary flair.
The story of Uncle Jack Charles is one of the most important stories that Ilbijerri Theatre Company has brought to the stage.
A theatre experience full of pathos and resolve, Jack Charles v The Crown has moved audiences beyond words and brought full houses to standing ovations each night.
It premiered at The Arts Centre at the Melbourne International Arts Festival in October 2010 with a sell-out season.
Jack Charles v The Crown will play at The Glasshouse next week, 21 and 22 June.
